Y&T :: Guitar GodsArticle and Photo by The Dude For over thirty years, Y&T have been melting the faces of rock fans worldwide. With the band members in their fifties, the boys made a few drastic changes this past year and have pulled off what many bands fail to do: they have returned to the form that brought them success in the first place. In a recent radio interview, Greg Kihn referred to the boys as “Road Dogs”, saying that Y&T was able to stay out on the road for sustained periods in the 80’s. Dave Meniketti stated that over the past couple of years the band had tried to return to that status and Phil Kennemore sited hang ability as the key to being able to stay out on the road as much as they wanted to. This was not done without a casualty though, as the band once again parted ways with original founding member Leonard Haze, once renowned as the fastest foot in the business. Haze seemed to lose his desire to be out on the road as much as the rest of the band wanted to. So, last year, with very short notice, the band made a drastic move parting ways with Haze and bringing in a top local bay area drummer, Mike Vanderhule. Mike brings thunder to the band and a fresh desire to tour. Currently on tour supporting the re-release of Earth Shaker and In Rock We Trust, as well as the band’s first DVD Live One Hot Night, only one year after adding Vanderhule, the band has jelled. The rhythm section has never been tighter than it was last week in Santa Cruz. Meniketti has acquired an arsenal of guitars that offer a nice variety of tones. Playing in rare form, Meniketti has shown over the past 30 years why he is a Guitar God. Being sought after to lead many top bands, including Ozzy Osborne, Meniketti chose to be true to himself and to Y&T and his many fans without a doubt at the cost of more fame and fortune than he has had leading Y&T. Instead, he has opted to be his own man together with long time partner Phil Kennemore, John Nymann, and now Mike Vanderhule. The foursome is currently working on a new CD, with no release date yet, but the re-releases of all the A&M recordings are now available here, and the DVD is on sale as follows: Germany-Austria-Switzerland: June 22nd Rest Of Europe: July 13th US/Canada: August 14th Rest of the world to follow Article and Photo by The Dude

Rock News: TESLA SET TO LAUNCH U.S. HEADLINING TOUR |
|
Posted by thedudeon Friday, June 01 @ 04:00:09 CDT |
 |
STARTING JUNE 7 IN SANTA ROSA, CA IN SUPPORT OF 'REAL TO REEL' DUE OUT JUNE 5;
FREE SHOW SCHEDULED FOR MAY 31 IN SACRAMENTO;
"TESLA TUESDAY" ROCKIN' PHOENIX WITH DAY'S WORTH OF EVENTS AND APPEARANCES ON RELEASE DAY;
BAND CONFIRMED TO APPEAR ON "ROCKLINE" WEDNESDAY, JUNE 6
May 30, 2007 -- As previously announced, TESLA will launch a summer U.S. headlining tour starting June 7 in Santa Rosa, CA at the Wells Fargo Center for the Arts in support of their REAL TO REEL album, which is due out June 5 on the band's Tesla Electric Company Recordings (Ryko Distribution). This marks the 20th consecutive year that TESLA has toured the States.
Before the tour officially kicks off, TESLA will make a special hometown appearance at Cesar Chavez Park in Sacramento, CA on May 31 at 7:00pm PT in front an expected crowd of 8,000. Not only will the show, sponsored by KXRQ-FM (98 Rock) and the Hard Rock Café, be FREE, but everyone in attendance will get a special pre-release sneak peek at REAL TO REEL. The one-hour performance will exclusively spotlight songs from "Reel 1" of the two-disc set, which will be sold that day at the new R5 store founded by Russ Solomon, the man behind the now defunct Tower Records chain. Immediately following the concert, the Hard Rock Café will sponsor a listening party with the band who'll be autographing copies of the album which will be available for sale at the event by R5.
The first 13 tracks REAL TO REEL-"Reel 1"--will be available on June 5 at retail outlets, while the second disc-"Reel 2"--containing the remaining 12 songs will be available along the band's tour route with the purchase of a concert ticket. An empty space will exist within "Reel 1"'s packaging for "Reel 2."
Fans wanting bonus material should head to their local Best Buy, where a limited edition package will be sold including "War Pigs" from "Reel 2" as well as a sneak preview of three of the band's first-ever unplugged studio recordings of "Modern Day Cowboy," "Paradise" and "Shine Away"--the last recordings with guitarist Tommy Skeoch in 2005-which will appear on TESLA's forthcoming 20th anniversary boxed set. Details about the boxed set will be announced soon.
On release day-declared "TESLA TUESDAY"-the band will be celebrating REAL TO REEL with a day's worth of listening parties, events and appearances in Phoenix, AZ. Early that morning, the band will perform "Thank You" on "Good Morning Arizona" (Channel 3), followed by a four-hour stint as guest DJs at KDKB-FM (93.3), where TESLA will take over the live radio airwaves from 10am-2pm playing songs from the album, chatting with fans who call in and giving away tickets to their concert in Phoenix on June 12 at the Dodge Theatre. Once that's complete, TESLA heads to Best Buy (2727 W. Thunderbird Rd.) for an in-store performance at 4:00pm. The day will conclude with a listening party at Martini Ranch sponsored by KDKB-FM, Zia Records and Live Nation. While the event is free, fans must be 21 and over to attend. TESLA will be mixing and mingling with fans, playing songs from both "Reel 1" and "Reel 2," and autographing copies of the album which will be available for sale at the event courtesy of Zia Records.
TESLA first tested out some of their favorite rock classics with their fans in the summer of 2006 during the "Electric Summer Jam" tour (the first tour with guitarist Dave Rude, who replaced original guitarist Tommy Skeoch). While UFO's "Rock Bottom" went down like a storm to a standing, cheering, grandstand crowd of 10,000 in Milwaukee, Black Sabbath's "War Pigs" engaged 6,000 people in Lansing, Michigan so much that they refused to leave during a torrential rainstorm which lasted throughout the entire two-hour show. After getting such a positive reaction from their fans, the band knew making REAL TO REEL was a logical next step for them.
What can fans expect this time around at a live TESLA show?
"They'll be hearing a lot of REAL TO REEL along with the hits they know and love," says singer Jeff Keith. "We're excited to play the new songs especially, because we had so much fun recording them. We tested some of them out last summer and people seemed to really like them. Now that we have the 25 songs in our heads, we can't wait to get out there and bring them all to life. And in addition to the TESLA hits, we'll be bringing some older songs out of the archives that we rarely play live. We're looking forward to playing REAL TO REEL with lots of feel."
Meanwhile, TESLA will be the featured guest on the nationally syndicated radio show "Rockline" on Wednesday, June 6 at 8:30pm PT/11:30pm ET. They'll chat with host Bob Coburn about REAL TO REEL, the U.S. tour and everything else happening in their world. The band will also be performing a few songs (some from the new album and some TESLA classics), and fans will have the opportunity to call in with questions for the duo at 800-344-ROCK (7625). For local listings, fans should check out www.rocklineradio.com.
In further radio news, lead singer Jeff Keith will appear on "The Adam Carolla Show" on Monday, June 4 at 9:00am Pacific Time. The program can be heard throughout the west coast on the Free FM radio network. Fans should check http://adam.freefm.com/ for local listings and can call in to 866-901-ADAM (2326) to talk with Jeff.
Fans can get up-to-the-minute tour details and purchase VIP ticket packages at the band's website, www.teslarealtoreel.com.
Here are the confirmed tour dates with stops in Chicago, Boston, New York, Baltimore, San Francisco and many other cities to be added in the coming weeks:

Rock News: GREAT WHITE: REUNION, NEW ALBUM & SUMMER SHOW DATES |
|
Posted by thedudeon Thursday, May 24 @ 19:22:30 CDT |
 |
“BACK TO THE RHYTHM” DUE OUT LATE SUMMER ON SHRAPNEL RECORDS
HOLYYWOOD (May 24, 2007) – Since reuniting in January 07’ to perform a benefit concert, GREAT WHITE has moved forward and hit the studio for their first album in 8 years. “It’s just like old times,” states lead singer, Jack Russell. “There’s a bond that forms between people that is very special. I’ve missed my friends.”
2007 marks GREAT WHITES 25th Anniversary, so original members Jack Russell (vocals), Mark Kendall (lead Guitar), Audie Desbrow (drums), Michael Lardie (Guitar/keyboards) and Sean McNabb (bass) have been in studio the last few months writing and recording. “Back To The Rhythm” is being mixed, produced, and engineered by band member Michael Lardie while collectively all are adding their sounds to the mix. “The new songs sound fresh to me, very GREAT WHITE, but with an approach of what we sound like in a live performance situation,” explains Michael Lardie. “Kendall and I are having fun channeling our Stones roots and playing off each other in the Richards/Woods tradition.”
With it being their anniversary year and a new album in tow, GREAT WHITE is once again ready to rock all summer long. The band will hit the road for summer shows Nation wide to support their new album “Back To The Rhythm” [Shrapnel Records] as well as slam out all their greatest hits the fans know and love.
The Southern California blues-rock band first took a bite out of the rock scene in 1984 and since then has achieved worldwide success, encompassing sales of over six million records. They received a Grammy Award nomination for Best Hard Rock Performance for the song "Once Bitten, Twice Shy" and earned a double platinum certification for the album “…Twice Shy”.
The soulful, blues-based signature sound that turned songs like "Face The Day", "Rock Me" and "Save Your Love" into international hits, can also be found on the new songs which are currently being mixed by the band’s keyboard player Michael Lardie.
The late 80's were boom years for the band, marked by non-stop touring with some of the biggest bands of the era and playing also in Europe and Japan. GREAT WHITE recorded two more albums for Capitol — “Hooked”, which was certified gold and “Psycho City”.
Although Capitol issued a Best Of compilation in 1993, Great White had already departed the label to begin work on their next studio release, “Sail Away”, released on Zoo Records in 1994 supporting it with relentless touring. Their next release was “Let It Rock” in 1996.
GREAT WHITE then signed with Portrait Records, an imprint founded by A&R guru John Kalodner that featured fellow hard rock acts such as Ratt. “Can’t Get There from Here” was released in 1999 and is the band’s last studio opus thus far.
Shrapnel Records plans to release the newest album at the end of August 2007. For more information go to www.mistabone.com.

WINGER COMING TO LAS VEGAS, NV |
|
Posted by thedudeon Wednesday, March 28 @ 07:55:58 CDT |
APRIL 14TH @ POLY ESTHERS HOLLYWOOD (March 27, 2007) – Platinum recording artist WINGER is playing Poly Esthers at the Stratosphere in support of their first album in over a decade. The founding members of WINGER, Kip Winger (bass/vocals), Reb Beach (guitar), Rod Morgenstein (drums), have reunited for their forth record, which is touted as their finest album ever. WINGER is joined John Roth (guitars/vocals) a WINGER member since 1993’s “PULL” album and new comer Cenk Eroglu (keyboards/vocals). Being the first WINGER album in 14 years it’s not what you would expect. "The new WINGER album" explains Kip, "starts where "Pull" left off and moves into new directions. It mixes some classic Hard Rock like VAN HALEN and early WINGER style, progressive and acoustic elements that may resemble GENESIS, MOTT THE HOOPLE or KING CRIMSON". # # # For more information go to www.kipwinger.com or www.myspace.com/kipwingermusic

Tesla’s New CD “Reel to Real” Coming May 22, 2007! |
|

I THOUGHT that might get your attention! Tesla's new CD Reel to Real is a covers CD that is gonna BLOW YOU AWAY!! There are 23 tracks in all so this will be released as a "volume 1 & 2" but there will be a catch. If you ask me, the marketing strategy that they are using is brilliant. Here's the deal.
Volume 1 of Reel to Reel will be available in stores on May 22 so make sure you go and buy it. Tesla will be out on tour this summer...possibly late spring in support of this CD and they will be performing what they are calling "Two Night Stands". Each city will have two back to back performances of Tesla, one night electric...one night acoustic. Make SURE that you buy tickets to BOTH shows because your ticket to the FIRST show is also buying you Reel to Real Vol.2!! That's right.....Reel to Real Vol.2 will be included in the price of your ticket and will be handed out as you enter the show. Is that COOL or WHAT?? Now here's the kicker.....on the SECOND night of this adventure there will be a BONUS CD handed out!! That's right....your ticket for the SECOND night will include a BONUS CD of acoustic material. These songs were taken from 5 Man Jam and recorded in the studio so they won't have the sound of the live audience behind them. They will have favorites from 5 Man (Signs, Paradise) as well as selected acoustic versions of songs from the 2005 5 Man Acoustic Jam Revisited Tour (Hang Tough, etc.) Now, I must report that this is NOT an official press release so this info is still subject to change but this announcement was made by Mr. Brian Wheat himself during a radio interview with Rock 94 in Albuquerque, NM last month. This has definitely got people talking.
I will let you know that although I have not had the privilege of hearing the finished tracks yet I know people who have and from what I am hearing from them....these tracks are gonna ROCK YOUR SOCKS OFF. Jeff's vocals are amazing from what I'm hearing.....not that we didn't already know that but I'm hearing that you will almost NOT recognize them! The track listing for Reel to Real is as follows:
Bad Reputation (Thin Lizzy) Ball Of Confusion (Temptations) Beer Drinkers, Hell Raisers (ZZ Top) Bell Bottom Blues (Eric Clapton/Derek And The Dominoes) Day Of The Eagle (Robin Trower) Dear Mr. Fantasy (Traffic) Do You (Feel Like We Do) (Peter Frampton) Honky Tonk Woman (Rolling Stones) I Want To Take You Higher (Sly & The Family Stone) Is It My Body (Alice Cooper) I've Got A Feeling (Beatles) Make It Last (Montrose) Not Fragile (Bachmann Turner Overdrive) Rock Bottom (UFO) Saturday Night Special (Lynyrd Skynyrd) Seasons Of Wither (Aerosmith) Shooting Star (Bad Company) Stealin' (Uriah Heep) Street Fighting Man (Rolling Stones) Thank You (Led Zeppelin) **FIRST SINGLE** Walk Away (James Gang) War Pigs (Black Sabbath)
NOW.....as for which order they will appear or which songs will be on which volumes.....I do not know. I guess we'll all just have to wait and see. What I DO know is that this is SUCH a great selection of classic rock song to cover. I am VERY excited about all of this and I cannot wait for this tour to begin. NO DOUBT there will be reviews and new photos on this site once they are out there. I PROMISE you won't be disappointed with the tour or the new CDs. C'mon MAY 22!!
That's it for now. If you'd like a tiny preview you can click on the links below and view a couple of live in-studio performances from Rock 94 in Albuquerque, NM. Tesla performed for some contest winners and they did Thank You (which will be the first single released from Reel to Real) and Walk Away (I LOVE this song....they are so fantastic with it) as well as Into The Now! Check them out! http://www.94rock.com/pages/Tesla_instudio.html
